2022 was the year of the necklace on the red carpet. We first began to see a glimmer of this truth at the end of 2021. And how welcome this variety of styles was after years of writing about the best earrings! The choices were exceptional, from chokers to lariats to huge rare center stone confections.

Of all of the necklaces seen in 2022, my favorite was the CHANEL FINE JEWELRY diamond and spinel long Y-style piece that Kristen Stewart wore to the Academy Awards. It was an artful nod to a jeweled version of a tie with her Chanel white shirt and black satin shorts suit. Photo: Shutterstock.
Sarah Paulson’s BOUCHERON choker with its geometric pattern and various cuts of diamonds evoking a puzzle-like textural pattern was one of the highlights of Emmy Awards jewelry. Photo courtesy of Shutterstock.
Anne Hathaway was named one of BULGARI’s new ambassadors, and as such, she wore one of the most dazzling jewels at the Cannes Film Festival — a Bulgari necklace from its Eden and the Garden of Wonders high jewelry collection. The Mediterranean Reverie was set in platinum with a rare 107.15-carat cushion-cut sapphire from Sri Lanka. More sapphires and brilliant, pear-cut and pavé-set diamonds finished off the pendant and chain. Photo courtesy of Shutterstock.
Every jewel (and outfit and gown) that Jodi Turner-Smith wore at the Venice International Film Festival was trend-worthy and imbued Haute Couture with a fresh, modern appeal. These diamond and emerald GUCCI High Jewelry necklaces made up just one of the looks that made her a contender for best dressed at the event. Photo courtesy of Shutterstock.
Caitríona Balfe projects an essence of elegance, and her wearing of the VAN CLEEF & ARPELS HERITAGE diamond bow necklace gave off a feeling of old Hollywood glamour for a new generation. Photo courtesy of Shutterstock.
Lady Gaga shimmered in TIFFANY & CO. at the 2022 SAG Awards. Her floral motif necklace was my choice as best necklace of that evening as it blossomed with an artistic rendering of nature in diamonds. Photo courtesy of Shutterstock.
